Planning Guidance & Community Character

Thinking of Making Changes to Your Property?

Please Stop & Think First

Before you make alterations to your home - including changes to boundaries, fences, walls, hedges, or access to your driveway - please take a moment to consider whether planning permission may be required.

Kesgrave is largely an open-plan development, and this design is a key part of what gives our town its character. Adding hard boundaries or enclosing the front of a property can significantly change the look and feel of the whole street scene.

💬 Ask yourself:
  • If I make this change - and everyone else in my road did the same - what would the area look like?
  • Would it still feel like the place I chose to live in?
  • What drew me to Kesgrave in the first place?

Safety & Environment

Changes to boundaries or access points can impact visibility for drivers and pedestrians, affect local drainage, and disrupt green spaces for wildlife.

Check Before You Build

It’s always better to check first. Reach out to East Suffolk Council for guidance - it can save time, money, and complications later.
