About this item
Overview
Kesgrave Town Council is committed to making sure that everyone can access and use this website easily. We have designed and developed our new website to meet the highest accessibility standards, working towards WCAG 2.2 AAA compliance wherever possible.
Our Commitment
While we are currently applying for the NALC Foundation (Bronze) Quality Standard, we have built an enterprise-level website that supports both residents and staff through clear, inclusive design and strong accessibility foundations.
Accessibility Standards
The website currently meets WCAG 2.2 AA standards and has been built with AAA readiness. This means the site includes features that make it easier for everyone to read, navigate, and interact with information, including:
- Keyboard navigation: you can move through the site using only a keyboard.
- Skip to content links: quickly jump past menus to reach the main content area.
- Adjustable text size: increase or decrease font size to suit your preference.
- High contrast mode: all text and background colours meet or exceed required contrast ratios for readability.
- Screen reader support: works effectively with popular assistive technologies such as JAWS, NVDA, and VoiceOver.
- Clear structure: consistent heading levels and page layouts that help screen readers interpret content in order.
- Descriptive ARIA labels: every button, link, and menu item includes clear descriptions for assistive devices.
- Readable content: short sentences, clear headings, and plain English used throughout the site.
- Accessible forms: all form fields have visible and labelled inputs for clarity.
- Responsive design: works on mobile phones, tablets, and desktop devices with equal usability.
Ongoing Improvements
Accessibility is not a one-time task — it is part of how we manage and improve this website. We regularly review pages, content, and new features to ensure continued compliance with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
Future updates will continue to support AAA-level accessibility, including improved language translation options, enhanced font legibility, and simplified forms for residents.
