The 60-year-old Kesgrave town sign has been beautifully restored and reinstalled, marking a proud moment for the community and the Town Council. The refurbished sign, first gifted to Kesgrave by the Kesgrave Women’s Institute in 1965, stands as a long-standing symbol of the town’s heritage and unity.

The original sign, which depicts the cedar tree at All Saints Church—a feature now used as the Kesgrave Town Council logo—was restored thanks to funding from East Suffolk Council’s Enabling Communities Budget, organised by Cllr Debbie McCallum.

The sign was previously refurbished in 1995 by former Town Councillor Keith Beecroft, exactly 30 years after its first unveiling. This latest restoration ensures the sign remains a proud focal point for generations to come.

"The sign is an old sign that needed a bit of work, but it really is a symbol of Kesgrave, showing the cedar tree. The whole area now has been lifted, with residents saying how much nicer and more welcoming it looks – which was the whole point," said Cllr McCallum.

As part of the project, the area surrounding the sign has also been enhanced with the installation of the second Kesgrave bee box and two new benches near The Walk on Bell Lane, creating a welcoming community space.

Kesgrave Town Council Chair, Neal Beecroft-Smith, added: “It is lovely to see the residents of the area using this space to chat and socialise. The sign has always been a proud emblem of Kesgrave, and this refurbishment reflects our town’s strong community spirit.”
