Temporary Gap in General Waste Collection

As the new Better Recycling service is introduced across our area, SOME HOUSEHOLDS may experience a longer-than-usual gap in black bin collections while new collection rounds are put in place. We know this may be inconvenient and we thank all residents for their patience during this transition.

Pro-Tip: Stay Updated via the App

To keep track of your specific collection dates and receive real-time updates, we strongly recommend downloading the East Suffolk Council app. It is the most reliable way to stay informed about changes in your area. Find out how to download it here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there a longer gap before my black bin is collected?

The change to new collection routes and the move to a three-weekly general waste service means some households will have a one-off longer gap during the transition.

What should I do on my next collection?

On your next scheduled black bin collection on 19 June, you can place up to two bags of side waste next to your black bin and these will be collected. After that, collections will move to the new three-weekly schedule.

What can I do in the meantime?

Residents can use local Household Waste Recycling Centres to dispose of any extra general waste during the transition period.

ℹ️ Questions or Concerns?

Please contact East Suffolk Council, which manages day-to-day waste services, for any enquiries regarding this transition:

If you are finding the change especially difficult because of nappy waste or sanitary products, please contact the District team or one of your District Councillors, who will look at what support may be available.

Making the Most of New Bins

As new bins are delivered, affected households are being prioritised where possible. You can start using your food waste bin as soon as it arrives, and once your blue bin has been collected, you can begin using it for soft plastics. Food waste and soft plastics make up a large part of what currently goes into general waste.
