How Kesgrave Town Council supports training for councillors and staff
The Training and Development Policy 2025–2028 sets out Kesgrave Town Council’s commitment to continuous learning and development for councillors and employees. It ensures that everyone involved in the Council’s work has the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver effective services and meet statutory obligations.
The Council recognises that its most valuable resource is its people. This policy promotes equality of opportunity, professionalism, and compliance with legal and safety requirements through structured training and development. Funding for training is included in the annual budget to support councillors and staff in attending relevant courses and events.
Training needs are identified through appraisal or changes in role. Employees may receive health and safety, first aid, or ROSPA training where relevant. Council funds subscriptions to the Suffolk Association of Local Councils (SALC) to access legal advice, training, and guidance from NALC.
Feedback from training events is used to assess effectiveness and share learning with colleagues. The Clerk maintains a record of training completed by councillors and employees. The policy is reviewed every three years to ensure continuing relevance.
