The New Councillor Induction programme explains how Kesgrave Town Council introduces, supports, and develops new councillors. It ensures that every member understands their responsibilities, the Council’s procedures, and the standards expected in public office.

About the Induction Process

Each newly elected or co-opted councillor is welcomed with an induction meeting, an information pack, and access to mentoring from experienced members and officers. The process helps councillors understand how the Council operates and how decisions are made.

Key features of the induction process include:

• Meeting with the Town Clerk to discuss duties, declarations, and register of interests.
• Guided review of essential governance documents such as Standing Orders, Financial Regulations, and the Code of Conduct.
• Attendance at early committee meetings to observe procedures.
• Access to relevant training courses offered by SALC and NALC.
• Ongoing mentoring and peer support from existing councillors.
